"The Braemar" is a reproduction of a Cast Iron Register Grate in the Georgian Style c 1830. It has a "register plate" to control the air flow and emissions and is a precursor of the modern fireplace. (It is called a register grate because the design was registered or copyrighted). The grate is around 8" from the hearth to allow for the removal of ash. This would give huge air flow were it not for the control at the top. It has ornate classical features, oak leaves on the chamfered opening edges, acanthus on the jambs and scallop shell and spray on the frieze.
